This painting comes from a series of work where the artist paints based on works by masters to
better understand art history that was learnt during art school. Of course there are differences
based on mood or ideas of today. Re-painting ia a way of combining memories with emotions
that rages in the heart of the artist. Manet is a European impressionist painter who has distinct
works. He uses thick paints, which Syahrizal Pahlevi likes. This painting is done based on one
among his best known works, A Bar at The Folies-Bergère, which shows a young
woman tending the bar at the famous Parisien music hall. Unlike its original, which is in
color, this painting is done in black and white. Signed and dated: 2020.
