736 This is a painting by a member of the Young Artists
tjakra, i nyoman of Bali, formed under the guidance of Arie Smit in
(b. Penestanan, Bali, 1945) the 1960s. Here Nyoman Tjakra painted a point in
time when people met at an intersection. A man is
Pulang Belanja (From The Market) just coming out from his house, while two women
have just returned from the market, carrying the
acrylics on canvas goods they have purchased or brought back, in
70 x 50 cm
baskets, on top of their heads. A young boy is seen
signed (lower left):”Iny. Tjakra Penestanan Ubud Bali” following one of the women. Another woman
carries firewood she has just collected from the
Rp. 5 - 7.500.000 woods outside the village, while a man and his child
are also just returning from a hard day’s work in the
US$ 357 - 536
market. A woman is just about to enter her house
gate carrying a vessel of water she has just collected
from the water spring. Beyond the village, we can
see a woman in front of her house, who is praying.
in this community everyone has each their own role
