This is a depiction of the Jaka Tarub legend, in
Bonny SetiaWan which Jaka Tarub watches the seven nymphs who
(b. Wonogiri, C. Java, 1968)
bathe in the river. There are only six nymphs in the
Jaka Tarub river, while the seventh can be seen flying above.
The seventh is certainly Nawang Wulan, who
2021 eventually gets abducted by Jaka Tarub. The
oil on canvas
100 x 150 cm painter, Bonny Setiawan, paints the scene
bringing light to the various Javanese ornamental
signed and dated (lower right): motifs, in an approach known as Yogyakarta
”Bonny 2021”
Decorativism, which is not to be confused with
