aFFandi This very early painting by Affandi shows the
(Cirebon, W. Java, 1907 - maestro’s ability to paint realistically. Prior to
Yogyakarta, 1990)
developing the well-known pelototan technique, in
Seated Woman which he would paint directly with oil colors from
their tubes. a style which was later known to be his
1938 signature style, he painted using the more common
oil on canvas realist technique. In this painting, the beautiful
63 x 48 cm
features of the young woman, seems to be a close
signed with the artist’s monogram relative or acquaintance of the painter, is portrayed
and dated (lower left): “AF 1938”
so intricately and naturally.
